Berkeley offers a wide variety of data science research opportunities. Here are some of the many active research units across campus. 

Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research (BAIR) Lab

The Berkeley Artificial Intelligence Research (BAIR) Lab brings together UC Berkeley researchers across the areas of computer vision, machine learning, natural language processing, planning, and robotics. 

BIDS (Berkeley Institute for Data Science)

BIDS is a central hub of research and education at UC Berkeley designed to facilitate and nurture data-intensive science.

D-Lab

D-Lab serves data intensive social science and humanities with in-depth consulting and advising, access to staff support, and training and provisioning for software and other infrastructure needs. 

CDAR (Consortium for Data Analytics in Risk) 

CDAR brings together researchers from across UC Berkeley and builds upon the programs of the Center for Risk Management Research (CRMR), a unit dedicated to understanding the dynamics of risk in financial markets.

Fisher Center for Business Analytics

The Fisher Center for Business Analytics pursues its vision through research, education, and accelerating the diffusion and adoption of analytics throughout all aspects of business and management.

Foundations of Data Analysis (FODA) Institute

The FODA Institute is an NSF TRIPODS institute designed to make transformational advances in the interdisciplinary foundations of data science, including both research and teaching.

Holos

Holos digitizes and aggregates biological and environmental collections in the Berkeley Ecoinformatics Engine ('Ecoengine'), a web service that can be searched and visualized using graphical tools.

QB3 Computational Genomics Resource Laboratory

The mission of the QB3 Computational Genomics Resource Laboratory (CGRL) is to serve as a focal point for scientists interested in the comprehensive analysis of next generation sequencing data.

RISELab

The RISELab develops technologies that enable applications to interact intelligently and securely with their environment in real time.

Signatures Innovation Fellows

The Signatures Innovation Fellows Program supports innovative research by UC Berkeley researchers in the data science and technology areas with a special focus on projects that hold commercial promise.

The Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing is the world's leading venue for collaborative research in theoretical computer science. 

University of California ClioMetric History Project

The University of California ClioMetric History Project (UC-CHP) takes a Big Data approach to exploring the history and role of the UC campuses in the state of California.

West Big Data Innovation Hub

The West Big Data Innovation Hub’s mission is to build and strengthen partnerships across industry, academia, nonprofits, and government to address societal and scientific challenges, spur economic development, and foster a national big data ecosystem.
