The Jepson eFlora (https://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/eflora/) presents information about the native and naturalized plants of California and integrates data from a number of sources, including a large database that pools herbarium data from across the state called the Consortium of California Herbaria (https://ucjeps.berkeley.edu/consortium/), CCH for short.

The goal of this Discovery Project is to improve the match between certain elements of the Jepson eFlora (such as its distribution maps and stated elevation ranges) and CCH data (as well as other related sources of plant location information such as iNaturalist).

The project involves comparison and cleaning of these large databases with an emphasis on spatial analysis (so students' familiarity with data refining tools and GIS will be essential). No prior knowledge of botany is needed, but students will learn about it in the process.
