Kathy Yelick, Associate Dean for Research in the Division of Computing, Data Science, and Society, will receive the Berkeley Lab Citation for Exceptional Achievement as one of the 2020 Lab Director's Awards announced Sept. 29. The award, to be presented Nov. 12, recognizes "Kathy’s extraordinary leadership both within the Lab and at the national level, including her significant role in developing DOE strategy in Exascale and Quantum Computing, Big Data, and Artificial Intelligence."
Yelick joined UC Berkeley in 1991 and was given a joint appointment at LBNL in 1996. At the lab she held consecutive positions as leader of the Future Technologies Group, director of the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Facility, and Associate Laboratory Director (ALD) for Computing Sciences. On Jan. 1, 2020, she stepped down after nearly 10 years as ALD to return to campus and remains a scientific advisor with the lab.
