Data Science in Six Words: connecting and informing the world

Why did you decide to become a data science major?
I’ve been quite involved with the data science community on campus, recently serving as a lead undergraduate student instructor for Data 8. Some of my favorite classes on campus have been the data-related courses I’ve taken, so I knew that I had to be a data science major when it got released!

What will you remember most about studying data science at Berkeley?
Taking Data 100 in its pilot (first) semester. Although the class and its curriculum wasn’t as smooth as most other classes when I took it, it was the class that made me realize that I definitely wanted to do more data science in college. I also met many friends and had countless long (but fun) nights working with them for this class!

Why did you choose Business and Industrial Analytics for your domain emphasis?
I chose it because I’ve always been interested in eventually getting into management.

How do you envision using your data science degree?
I plan on being a software engineer with a heavy emphasis on backend development and data. I personally enjoy software engineering a lot and mixing that with my data science knowledge would be the perfect job for me!
