 On the Same Page

Professor Te-hsing Shan received his Ph.D. in comparative literature from National Taiwan University in 1986. He served as the President of English and American Literature Association of the Republic of China (2000-2001) and the President of Comparative Literature Association of the Republic of China (2008-2010). He was a Fulbright Senior Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley (2005-2006). Currently, he is Distinguished Research Fellow of the Institute of European and American Studies, Academia Sinica, the highest academic institution in Taiwan. In addition to being a scholar, he is also an experienced translator and interviewer with dozens of books to his credit. His research areas include Asian American Literature, Comparative Literature, Cultural Studies, and Translation Studies.

Andrew Way Leong is assistant professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the translator of Lament in the Night (Kaya Press 2012), a collection of two novels by Nagahara Shōson, an author who wrote for a Japanese reading public in Los Angeles during the 1920s. This translation received an Association for Asian American Studies Outstanding Book Award in 2014. Leong is also the 2018 recipient of the Association for Asian American Studies’ Early Career Achievement Award. His recent publications have appeared in The New Whitman Studies, Comparative Literature Studies, and Verge: Studies in Global Asias.
