Students from underrepresented or nontraditional backgrounds interested are invited to apply for the Data Scholars program.

Data Scholars is intended to address the issues of underrepresentation in the data science community. The program was founded on the belief that anyone can become a data scientist and use the concepts taught in Data 8 in any field to make a difference.

The program offers exclusive workshops in Python, statistics, probability, and machine learning as well as specialized office hours and group tutoring sessions. The program's organizers are building a community that will be welcoming, educational, and empowering. The program also offers mentorship from graduate students and post-docs to guide scholars.

The Data Scholars Program hopes to make Data Science at Berkeley a safe and encouraging space for underrepresented and nontraditional students in the Data 8 class. It is especially suited for students who may not have had computer science or math education in secondary school, and who can bring diverse and positive contributions to the field of Data Science given the appropriate resources.
